At the first meeting of 2002 over 60 members gathered to hear the speaker, Tom Doig, entertain us well with a very informative and funny insight of the mysteries surrounding marriages, births and baptisms in the 1800’s. We all learned the meaning behind names and terms that are all too familiar. Tom explained the truth about pregnancy before marriage, and the formalities and costs of marriage. Tom completed his fascinating talk by enlightening us in the mysteries surrounding birth, confinement and baptism. Everyone enjoyed a most informative lecture. [Bridget Hunter]
